To call them saddle bags is somewhat misleading.

They will not hold everything you will need for an exhaustive journey in the same way a messenger back will not carry everything to make a stellar scholar-athlete. However, your chain(s), mini-tools, disc lock, paper bag lunch, and zip-into-pouch rain suit will fit between the two of them.

Initially I assumed the rain covers would be somehow attached to the outside and then pulled out and over when needed, but these are separate and will be stowed along with your sandwich. Velcro belts hold them together or top, and plastic-hook bungee cords(2) hold them on the bottom.

I give them a 4 out of 5 for not having either sturdy inner sidewalls, or an included hard plate accessory because the narrow tail frames of many sports bike will put a capacity-limiting dent into the side of the saddlebags. A chunk of plywood or whatever makes you happy can fix it. Overall, a good buy.
