This pair of the VW Pedal Cap Set comes with two parts: 1 brake pedal cap and 1 gas pedal assembly (which includes the electronic pressure/output conversion unit). So the name could be a bit misleading since the gas pedal comes as a whole assembly rather than just a cap. It's marked as genuine VW original equipment on the box.Bought and have them installed on my 09 VW CC Sport (6-speed tip-tronic automatic).
While it's obvious that this pair of stainless surface pedals look much better than the OEM rubber surface ones, the performance is also noticeably improved.
The new gas pedal assembly feels much more responsive and the power output is more aggressive than the OEM one. This could be the result of either or both of the followings:
1) The calibration of the gas pedal pressure and power output done at the dealership (where it was installed as well) is more aggressive than the stock settings;
2) The power output curve of the the new gas pedal assembly is more responsive and aggressive than the replaced OEM one.
The brake pedal responsiveness and performance also feels improved, but definitely not as much as the gas pedal. Maybe it's just an illusion, or maybe the harder surface of the brake pedal (stainless metal vs. rubber) indeed helped a little bit in improving the pressure feedback from the pedal.
While the install of the brake pedal cap can easily be DIYed, it requires special screw drivers and sockets to remove the OEM one and install the new gas pedal assembly, and more importantly, the new gas pedal assembly has to be calibered using the special equipment for it to be functioned correctly and safely with the ECM (ECU), so it has to be done at an authorized VW dealership. Spent $140 at a local downtown VW dealership to have it installed and tuned which took about 1 hour.
Overall, this set of stainless surface brake pedal cap and gas pedal assembly brings good improvement to your VW ride in appearance and performance (provided that the 2) of the potential reason for the gas pedal assembly to be more responsive and aggressive is true and that you prefer this setting over the OEM one).
