I purchased this hitch rack to use with our travel trailer to hold a generator. The generator is a Yamaha 3000 series which weighs about 150 pounds dry (no fuel). This rack handles this weight with no problem along with anything else I want to put on it such as gas can, firewood or small bike. The sides are fairly high, so you can be comfortable nothing is going to fly out.

I have used brackets that create a standard 2" receiver on the bumper of the trailer to mount this. I added two additional 2" square 'pipes' bolted on the outer sides of the rack to prevent wobble/sway. You may want to see my pictures at the top of this listing to make this a bit more clear. These also allow the weight in the rack to be distributed a bit more than if it was all resting on a single center support as RV/5th Wheel/Travel Trailer bumpers are a little thin. I then use ratchet straps to prevent the generator from moving around while in the cargo carrier. Finally, I put a long, thick bike style lock wrapping around the handles of the generator and through the receivers to discourage anyone that likes my generator a bit too much.

We have had folks behind us while driving down pretty rough dirt/gravel roads and everyone has said the rack and generator sit solid as a rock. We have had this carrier for about three months and done 10 trips, both short (50 miles) and long (1000+ miles) with no issues. I am constantly stopped by folks with RVs/5th Wheels/Travel Trailers asking about this configuration. The dealership I got the trailer from has now started offering my generator rack solution to their customers because of how clean it looks and how stable it is.

Long and short this is a great cargo carrier/hitch mounted rack. It is MUCH more solid than most other racks while not weighing a huge amount. You get stability and high sides to allow carrying of a wide variety of items. If you need this type of item, I would strongly recommend this one.
